This is a review of the Sentry Safe model GM2459C (Gun Safe). I typically don't do reviews like this but when I was looking for reviews of this particular safe, I found NONE! So hopefully this will help you in your decision. I am extremely satisfied with this safe. The matte finish texture is similar to that of a wall that had just been painted. The dimensions are true and inside is very customizable. The inside layout is pretty standard to what you'd see in a typical gun case of this size. Long guns can go on one side, or both, and on either side you can put smaller shelves to hold your ammo or handguns. It comes with plenty of shelves; I actually have 4 leftover that I didn't use. I went old-school and got the combination lock. I would have liked to go digital, but I read the instructions and you could just remove the digital box (bypassing it) and open the safe with a single key. I think it would be easier to pick a single lock rather than a combo (just my opinion). Couple things I don't like about the lock is that the 3-prong opener must be pushed all the way to the left while you dial in your combo, otherwise the dial will not move. Even the slightest tilt to the right seemed to lock the dial, making it unmovable. (Maybe this is a good thing - extra protection from someone who doesn't know better) Another minor issue is the dial is not completely smooth when I turn it. There are some points where it’s tougher to turn. This could just be the fact the safe is new. But these are very minor and wouldn't impact my decision if I had to do it again. I noticed the door only has 3 locking bolts. I was hoping for 2 more (for the top and bottom), but that's no big deal. On carpet, its easy to shim it around to a new location if there's nothing inside it (I can move it myself and I'm 6ft4 185lbs). It will have this 'new product' smell to it, which is probably true for all other safes as well. But you don't really smell it unless you get really close or stick your head inside the safe. I was surprised at how much ammo I could put in there. I've got over 1300 rounds of 9mm, 1300 rounds of shotgun ammo, some .223, 45, .357, .22, .306, and I was able to get everything in and still I have the top shelf free for misc items like my camera, watches, etc.. The door swings very easy on the hinge and it can open all the way to 180+ degrees. The numbers on the combination lock are only easily seen if you are looking straight down on the dial. This is because the fixture around the dial expands, covering up the numbers as it goes around to the bottom. This is good for protecting your combo from others around you, but it also makes it easier for you to pass the number up without realizing it. I did a lot of research on safes online and for the money this is an a great value...even a better value than the ones at bass pro shop, cabellas, gander mountain, etc.. Plus Sentry is a good company that has been around for a while and specializes in safes.
