Benjamin Trail NP All-Weather 0.177-Caliber Break Barrel Air Rifle:I really like the Benjamin NP rifle. I decided to purchase an air rifle for my son. I researched a lot of air rifles and different types and this rifle I found has good reviews. So I took a chance and I'm glad I did. First of all, if you have one of those air rifles with a super hard trigger pull, you know how hard it is to shoot descent groups. This rifle has just the opposite. The trigger was light and smooth.The second stage could be shorter, but its not much of a problem. This rifle has the weight of an actual rifle, and comes with a padded sling, which helps when carrying it around. The buttstock has a generous pad for cushioning. The 3-9 x 40 Center Point scope is clear and fairly distortion free. I like the clarifier for yardage too.What sets the rifle apart from the spring type is the Nitro Piston feature. I noticed its easier to pump, shoots quieter, less vibration when shooting. The only drawbacks I found was the length of break-in period and the first few shots there will be oil spraying out of the barrel. After the initial break-in period was over, my rifle took about 150 shots to settle in, the rifle was shooting consistantly at 20 yards.The pellet that seems to be the most accurate in my rifle is the Crosman Premier Hollow Points. Others I tried were Crosman Pointed premium grade, Crosman Premier Ultra Magnum Heavy, and the worst performing ones, Crosman Destroyer EX. The Hollow Points shoot really well out to 50 yards.I don't believe my rifle is getting the advertised speed of 1000 fps. I didn't chronograph it, but my Beeman springer hits the target faster, of course it is a lot louder, vibrates, and has the junky trigger. The rifle still hits hard and can pass completely through a 1/2 inch pine board at 20 yards, and buries itself fully in the board behind the first one.One helpful tip I would like to share is before you start shooting this rifle or any other air rifle is clean out the barrel before shooting. Start by putting bore paste on a .177 cal bore brush and keep swabbing the barrel for at least 15 times, then run some solvent through the barrel, I used a bore snake to clean out the paste and dirt. Inspect the barrel for cleanliness. My barrel was dirty. This way you are starting out with a nice clean bore which helps with accuracy. Oh yes and read the manual. There is some maintenence to be done after shooting so many rounds out of it.
